Abdolreza Kahani’s Mortician Wins the “Sean Connery Award” at the Edinburgh Film Festival

According to CinemaDrame News Agency, Iranian-Canadian film Mortician by Abdolreza Kahani won the “Sean Connery Award” at the Edinburgh Film Festival. The £50,000 prize is decided by audience vote. Last year, Kahani presented his film A Tomb at the same festival.

The story follows a morgue attendant in Canada who faces a strange request from a singer. The cast includes Nima Sadr, Golazin Ardestani, Pouya Razavi, Erfan Bakaei, Rahim Bahrami, Sarva Hassani, Kimia Motavalli, Mehdi Salar, Shima Saber, Mahmoud Ramezanpour, Kamelia Simab, Hamidreza Hosseini, and Hesam Sobhani.

A Screen critic wrote in their review of Mortician: “With a biting perspective, this film recalls the darkest aspects of exile, especially for those who have faced punishment.”

The “Thelma Schoonmaker Award” for Best Short Film at the festival went to Mother Goose by Joanna Wimeris.
